May setting x-terminal-emulator to lxterminal in the lxde-pi-rc.xml file could have cured my shortcut symptom, but to me it looked like the 'quick and dirty way'. My keyboard shortcut 'Strg+Alt+T' starts 'lxterminal' which I do enjoy. Now 'file $(which /etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator)' delivers: /etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator: symbolic link to /usr/bin/lxterminal

Update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/lxterminal to provide /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator (x-terminal-emulator) in manual mode Press to keep the current choice, or type selection number: 3 There are 5 choices for the alternative x-terminal-emulator (providing /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator). On my fresh installation I got something like 'There is no alternative. Sudo update-alternatives -config x-terminal-emulator and the entry with ' lxterm' ist the cause of my clutter! On my fresh installation I got 'symbolic link to /usr/bin/lxterminal' etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator: symbolic link to /usr/bin/ lxterm usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator: symbolic link to /etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulatorįile $(which /etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator) I just want to share my way of getting lxterminal assigned back to my keyboard shortcut for my system:ĭescription:ĝebian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) I started investigation by putting 'x-terminal-emulator' in a search engine and arrived at. Package x-terminal-emulator is a virtual package provided by: But I got some usefull information: x-terminal-emulator is a virtual package!!! So I thought I do: 'sudo apt-get install x-terminal-emulator' with high hopes that the (re)installation could fix a misleading link. Which directed mo to the idea, that x-terminal-emulator is not the programm but a Link. I did the same on a fresh installation and in both cases the default - and fine for me - terminal window opened. var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/x-terminal-emulatorĪnd executed /etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator which opened the - to small for me - terminal window also. usr/share/man/man1/x-terminal-emulator.1.gz usr/share/raspi-ui-overrides/applications/sktop etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator.1.gz So i executed: 'sudo find / |grep x-terminal-emulator' and got:įind: ‘/run/user/1000/gvfs’: Permission denied If I run 'x-terminal-emulator' the - to small for me - terminal window opens.
$ cd $ sudo cp lxde-pi-rc.xml $ sudo mousepad lxde-pi-rc.xml adviced me to consult /etc/xdg/openbox/lxde-pi-rc.xml (. To get this nuisance out of my systems I thought it could overwrite the keyboard shortcut. Is there a way to change the keyboard assignment to the programs? Thanks to the Mint team!Ĭan anyone explain what could causes this strange action?
UXTERM MANUAL PC
On an other PC I use Linux Mint (Ubuntu) with the same LaTeX packages and GNOME Terminal (gnome-terminal) which stayed with me after LaTex installation. So I thought it would be clever to purge and autoremove the LaTex installation and reboot to see what happens. If I use the mouse and click on the LXTermnial icon on the taskbar (is it called like that?) my beloved terminal is back, but I have to use the mouse everytime I like to start a new terminal instance. As you might thought: when I try to copy some content from XTerm (Ctrl+Shift+C) and Shift gets ignored. I think it ignores more than 2 keys at the time. Smaller window, smaller text (see picture) and no copy&paste with Xterm. Maybe XTerm can be great for someone else but I don't appreciate it and it don't fits my needs. Great!Īfter some programming (PHP/HTML) on apache2 and installing (texlive-full texlive-lang-german texlive-latex-extra texmaker) my loved terminal won't start after pressing Ctrl+Alt+T, but now I have Xterm showing up. I can even use copy&paste from outside when I use Shift+Ctrl+C. I can do everything I need with my keyboard. When I press Ctrl+Alt+T - which I do quite often - after a fresh installation LXterminal opens. Recently I set up a RPi 4 B 2 GB and noticed some strange behavior (default Raspberry Pi os).Īfter that I did similar things with a PC (Debian Buster with Raspberry Pi Desktop) and ran into the same scenario. I spend quite some time searching the web and hoping to find some advice.
